For a light display that’s sure to brighten the season, head a few minutes east of Paducah to Grand Rivers for the holiday Festival of Lights.
The celebration features more than 500,000 lights around downtown, with most of the illumination centered on Patti’s 1880’s Settlement.
The popular restaurant and recreation complex is all aglow, from ground level to the tops of the tallest trees. The Grand Rivers Festival of Lights has been named a Top 20 Event by the Southeast Tourism Society for fall 2010.
Events from across the Southeast compete to receive this Top 20 designation. The lights went on Nov. 12 and will shine nightly through the first week of January.
There’s no charge to ooh and ahh over the decorations and lights, but you may want to drop into Patti’s or its sister restaurant, Mr. Bill’s, for one of their signature dishes, such as the two-inch pork chops or rich, filling deserts. Reservations are recommended.
The restaurants are especially busy during the holiday season. Santa appears at Patti’s Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays through Sundays, beginning Thursday, Dec. 2.
The restaurant interiors are also decked out with lights, ornaments, Santas and snowmen. Like the rest of Grand Rivers, it’s a holiday gift for your eyes.
